So no - you do not strictly need semihollow. After years of flipping guitar I realized that if I listen to instrument very carefully and if I try to understand what it can offer I can typically get jazzy tone from any well set guitar. John Scofield grabs Strat every now and then. One of my fav jazzers is Bill Frisell and he mostly plays Telecaster and also Stratocaster. There is this cliché that tone is in the fingers - that could very much be true. Look up the guy on YT called Tim Lerch - phenomenal jazz player and teacher. Find something like G&L Bluesboy Tribute - you can find chambered version - it is lighter and comfy. Telecaster with humbucker is a perfect jazz guitar. It is a legend that you need semihollow or hollowbody for jazz. Want guitar that will be jack of all trades (maybe not metal) - then get Telecaster with humbucker in the neck. Not as sturdy as AS120 but then not many guitars are. But it only has 20 frets so neck pickups is very different spot than on 22 fret guitar and it sounds like nothing else. Prestige I bought by accident - friend lent it to me and I could not stop playing it - it is one of those giant red semihollows with Bigsby. AS120 is built like a tank - I put Gibson pickups in mine and it plays like a dream. AS120.I have both and they are excellent. Used Ibanez AS series from about 20 yrs ago - e.g.
